11 MARCH 2014:
MAIN CONSTRUCTION WORK COMMENCES AT JACKS LANE WIND FARM

Following preparatory work over the past month, including the erection of two power performance masts, main construction activity will begin on Monday 17th March and continue over the next 12-14 months, with turbine deliveries and erection anticipated to take place in autumn 2014. Once completed, the wind farm will be capable of generating sufficient renewable electricity to meet the average annual requirements of more than 10,600 homes.

Gary Scrowther, RES’ Construction Site Manager, says:
“We will be using our considerable experience of constructing onshore wind projects to ensure that Jack’s Lane Wind Farm is built to the highest possible standards and with minimum disruption to local people. Since the project was consented in January 2013, RES has worked closely with the relevant authorities to ensure that our traffic management and construction management procedures will protect the safety of local people and our workforce. Our website and direct mail updates will ensure that local communities are fully aware of our construction programme; however we would also encourage people to contact us directly with any specific concerns or queries they might have as we progress through construction.”

newsletter outlining the indicative construction timeline and the community benefits package - which will become available once the wind farm is operational - has been distributed in the past week to over 4,700 homes and businesses within a nine kilometre radius of the site.

The total value of the community benefits package available at Jack’s Lane Wind Farm has recently increased to £75,000 per year as a result of final turbine choice, which has improved the capacity of the wind farm from 13.8 megawatts (MW) to 15MW. This includes a Community Benefit Fund to support local social, educational and environmental projects and RES’ innovative Local Electricity Discount Scheme (LEDS), which will provide an annual discount of £117 per year off the electricity bills of nearest neighbours. Eligible properties will be contacted directly in the next few weeks with details of how to register their interest in the scheme.
